About Frederic Niemeyer

Frederic realizes that his life path, compared to others of his generation, has been somewhat different. He comes from a multicultural background, with a Canadian mother and German father who met in Madagascar. He spent the first ten years of his life in Africa, primarily in Burundi and Cameroon.

At the age of four, he picked up a tennis racket for the first time and was introduced to the sport by his father. His father loved sports, and his grandfather always told him that if he wanted to run, it was better to do it behind cows or bulls so he could bring food to the table. This led him becoming a natural athlete and a good tennis player himself.

While living in Africa, his dad would go to the tennis club and Frederic would tag along, hitting the wall with his tennis ball and racquet, while his father played tennis with his friend.

Frederic didn't have to run behind cows or bulls, but he definitely had to learn the sport in a much different way than the kids he made friends with when he moved to Canada.

When Frederic’s family moved to Canada, he played junior tennis and eventually went on to play in the NCAA at Middle Tennessee State University. Then, he went on to have a successful career as a professional player on the ATP tour and was ranked as Canada's #1 player.

After 11 years on the tour, he continued his passion for the sport as a Coach for the Canadian Tennis Federation. During this time, he became a deep student of the game, carefully studying how the best professionals train and eventually codifying this knowledge into the Tennis Transformation System.

Today, when you watch a tennis match, you realize how much the game has improved over the past two decades.

Tennis players are not only tennis players, but they have become exceptional athletes; agile, fast, tough and powerful. Technology has also played a role in improving the game by providing players with the right equipment for every personal need. Unfortunately, the rapid evolution of the game has not brought only good things to the sport of tennis. It has brought much confusion to the teaching and coaching of the game, especially at the lower levels of the sport. High level, structured information seems scarce and expensive to obtain.

Working on the tour, talking to players, parents, coaches Frederic realized how much people need to surround themselves with good information.

Throughout his career as a player and coach, he has been privileged to know and access the highest level of the sport.

“As a huge fan of the sport and more than a decade of gathered knowledge, I was driven to make a difference and shape the future of tennis. That’s how the Tennis Transformation System was born”

Frederic has been around the world several times observing how different nations practice the sport of tennis.

Apart from maybe a little extra intensity, discipline, and the number of hours, he has noticed little differences from place to place. Most competitive players use some combination of the following training methods:

  • Live private coaching, which is costly and may or may not follow a thoughtful training plan

  • Clinics or academies, which often repeat similar drills over and over without addressing the fundamentals of technique and footwork, or a high degree of variety and challenge

  • Video ‘analysis’ of the pros, which offers only isolated tips and tactics
